Dry Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Decorations:
- red food coloring, as needed
- brown food coloring, as needed
- 1/2 cup melted white chocolate or thick vanilla frosting
- 16 small chocolate chips or candy melts for noses
- 32 candy eyes or small dots of black decorating gel
- heart sprinkles, as needed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Divide the dough into portions and tint one portion red and another brown, leaving some plain if desired for contrast.
- Scoop dough into medium balls for the bear faces and add two smaller pieces on top for the ears, gently pressing them together.
- Place the shaped bears on the prepared baking sheets and chill for 15 minutes so they hold their shape.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops look baked without overbrowning.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack and cool completely.
- Add melted white chocolate or vanilla frosting to the center of each cookie to create the muzzle.
- Attach the candy eyes and place a chocolate chip or candy melt in the center for the nose.
- Draw a small mouth with decorating gel and finish with heart sprinkles near the ears or cheeks.
- Let the decorations set completely before serving or storing.
Notes
- Use chilled dough if the bear ears start to soften or lose shape while you work.
- Let the cookies cool completely before decorating so the muzzle and face details stay neat.
- For the cleanest design, use a small spoon or piping bag to add the white chocolate or frosting.
