Description

Soft, fluffy vanilla donuts baked to perfection and dipped in a vibrant red and white glaze—perfectly festive and finished with sprinkles for a fun, eye-catching treat. Ideal for holidays, Canada Day, or any celebratory occasion.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk (as needed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Red and white sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients and stir just until smooth.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the tops spring back when lightly pressed.
  7. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and pourable. Divide and tint one portion with red food coloring.
  9. Dip cooled donuts into the glaze and top with sprinkles immediately before the glaze sets.

Notes

  • Ensure donuts are completely cool before glazing to prevent melting.
  • Adjust milk in glaze for desired consistency—thicker for dipping, thinner for drizzling.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • For best results, use gel food coloring for vibrant color without thinning the glaze.
