For Bloomin’ Apples:
- 4 large Honeycrisp or Fuji apples
For Cinnamon-Sugar Butter:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
For Serving:
- Vanilla ice cream
- Caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish or line with parchment paper.
- Prepare apples: Slice off the top 1/4 inch of each apple and use a melon baller or paring knife to carefully scoop out the core.
- Create ‘bloomin” effect: Place apple flat-side down and cut vertical slits about 1/4 inch apart, leaving the bottom intact. Turn and repeat to create a “bloomin’” effect.
- Coat with cinnamon-sugar butter: Gently spread the petals apart. Place apples upright in the baking dish. In a bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt. Spoon the mixture evenly over each apple, making sure it seeps into the cuts.
- Bake: Cover loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes, or until apples are soft and caramelized.
- Serve: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce.
