Description
A deliciously sweet and savory grilled cheese sandwich featuring creamy brie, crisp apple slices, and tangy cranberry sauce, perfectly toasted on sourdough or whole grain bread. This comforting recipe combines rich flavors for an elegant yet easy-to-make meal.
Ingredients
Scale
Bread
- 4 slices sourdough or whole grain bread
Cheese
- 8 ounces brie cheese, sliced
Fruits & Sauces
- 1 medium apple (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup cranberry sauce, homemade or store-bought
Other
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for drizzling)
- Fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Begin by slicing the brie cheese and the apple thinly. Set aside the cranberry sauce. This preparation will make the sandwich assembly quicker and easier.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer the sliced brie, apple, and a generous spoonful of cranberry sauce. Top each with the remaining bread slices, buttered side facing outwards.
- Grill the Sandwich: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet and grill for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and crisp, and the brie has melted thoroughly.
- Serve and Garnish: Remove the grilled sandwiches from the skillet. Optionally, drizzle with honey and sprinkle fresh thyme over the top for added flavor and aroma. Cut sandwiches in half and serve warm.
Notes
- Use a sturdy bread like sourdough or whole grain to hold the fillings better.
- For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of black pepper with the brie and apple layers.
- If cranberry sauce is too thick, stir it slightly before spreading to make it easier to distribute.
- Using cold butter softened to room temperature helps spread it evenly on the bread.
- To make this sandwich vegetarian, ensure your cranberry sauce and bread contain no animal products.
