- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk (as needed)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Red gel food coloring
- Red and white sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients and stir just until smooth.
- Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the tops spring back when lightly pressed.
- Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and pourable. Divide and tint one portion with red food coloring.
- Dip cooled donuts into the glaze and top with sprinkles immediately before the glaze sets.
Notes
- Ensure donuts are completely cool before glazing to prevent melting.
- Adjust milk in glaze for desired consistency—thicker for dipping, thinner for drizzling.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- For best results, use gel food coloring for vibrant color without thinning the glaze.
