Description

Perfectly golden and tender onion rounds, slowly cooked to bring out their natural sweetness and rich, deep flavor — ideal for topping burgers, steaks, or enjoying on their own.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large onions, peeled and sliced into thick rounds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional for extra richness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (optional for added depth)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil (and butter if using) in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Add onion rounds carefully, keeping them intact. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook undisturbed for 5-7 minutes until golden on the bottom.
  4. Flip gently and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes, until caramelized and tender.
  5. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar if desired, and cook 1-2 minutes more.
  6. Serve warm as a topping or side.

Notes

  • Cook low and slow for the best caramelization without burning.
  • Great as a burger, steak, or sandwich topping, or as a side dish.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge and reheated gently.
