For the Chocolate Cake:

- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda

- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water or hot coffee
For the Strawberry Buttercream:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup fresh strawberries, mashed
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
For the Ganache Topping:
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Fresh strawberries, halved

- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually stir in hot water or coffee until smooth (batter will be thin).
- Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
- For buttercream, beat butter until fluffy. Add powdered sugar gradually, then mix in mashed strawberries, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
- For ganache, heat cream in a saucepan until just simmering. Pour over chocolate chips and stir until glossy and smooth. Let cool slightly.
- Assemble cake by layering chocolate cake with strawberry buttercream. Frost the outside. Pour ganache over the top, letting it drip slightly down the sides.
- Decorate with fresh strawberry slices and chill until set.
