Description

These decadent cinnamon rolls with nuts are a delightful twist on the classic breakfast treat. Made easy with canned cinnamon rolls, they’re swirled with a sweet, nutty mixture of walnuts and pistachios, and drenched in a luscious brown sugar-honey syrup. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, these gooey, nut-filled rolls are sure to be a family favorite.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Syrup

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter

Nut Mixture

  • 3/4 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup pistachios, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Cinnamon Rolls

  • 2 cans canned cinnamon rolls

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready when the rolls go in.
  2. Make the syrup. In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, honey, heavy cream, and unsalted butter. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and allow it to simmer uncovered for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let the syrup cool slightly after simmering.
  3. Prepare the nut mixture. In a small bowl, mix together the chopped walnuts, chopped pistachios, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  4. Fill the cinnamon rolls. Unroll the canned cinnamon rolls and evenly spoon the nut mixture over each strip of dough. Carefully roll them back up, making sure the filling stays inside.
  5. Assemble in the baking dish. Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish. Spoon half of the prepared syrup into the bottom of the dish. Arrange the filled cinnamon rolls on top of the syrup. Drizzle the remaining syrup over the rolls and sprinkle any leftover nut mixture on top.
  6. Bake the rolls. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for about 40 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and fluffy. Remove from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  7. Serve and store. Serve the cinnamon rolls warm for the best gooey texture. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for best blending and texture.
  • If you prefer pecans or almonds, substitute them for walnuts or pistachios as desired.
  • For an extra glossy top, add a drizzle of icing or glaze included with the canned rolls after baking.
  • Letting the rolls sit for 5 minutes after baking helps the syrup soak in for maximum flavor.
