Description

This creamy garlic parmesan chicken recipe is a quick and elegant dish perfect for family dinners or impressing guests. Featuring tender seared chicken breasts smothered in a rich and velvety garlic parmesan sauce, it combines simple ingredients for a decadent meal ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 2 chicken breasts, cut in half lengthwise (4 thinner pieces)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or dry white wine
  • 1 cup heavy/whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Cut the chicken breasts in half lengthwise to create four thinner pieces. Season both sides generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to enhance flavor.
  2. Heat the pan: Add olive oil and butter to a skillet and warm over medium-high heat for a few minutes to get the pan hot.
  3. Cook the chicken: Place the chicken in the skillet and cook for approximately 5-6 minutes on each side until nicely seared and cooked through. Transfer the chicken to a plate, loosely tent with foil to keep warm, then turn off the heat.
  4. Make the sauce base: Turn the heat back to medium-high and sprinkle the flour and minced garlic into the hot skillet. Stir continuously for about one minute to cook the flour and garlic, forming a flavorful roux.
  5. Add liquid and reduce: Pour in the chicken broth or dry white wine, whisking to dissolve the flour completely. Allow the mixture to simmer and reduce by half to concentrate the flavors.
  6. Incorporate cream and thicken sauce: Stir in the heavy cream and let it bubble gently for a few minutes until the sauce thickens to your liking. Reduce heat if the sauce boils rapidly. Remove skillet from heat and mix in the freshly grated parmesan cheese until melted smoothly into the sauce.
  7. Combine and finish: Return the cooked chicken along with any accumulated juices to the skillet. Spoon sauce generously over the chicken, adjust seasoning with extra salt and pepper if needed, and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley for a bright finish.

Notes

  • Using an instant-read thermometer is highly recommended to ensure the chicken is perfectly cooked to 165°F, avoiding under- or overcooking.
  • Substitute dry white wine with extra chicken broth if preferred.
  • For a thicker sauce, simmer a bit longer; for a thinner consistency, add a splash of chicken broth.
  • Serve with pasta, mashed potatoes, or a side of steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
