Description
Enjoy a light and crunchy treat with these Crispy Angel Cake Churro Bites, a gluten-free and vegan dessert that combines the soft texture of angel cake with a cinnamon sugar coating for a delightful bite-sized snack.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Cake Base
- 1 box Angel Cake Mix (opt for a gluten-free mix for gluten-free version)
For the Coating
- 1 cup Sugar (coconut sugar offers a less refined alternative)
- 2 tablespoons Cinnamon (consider adding nutmeg or cardamom for variation)
For Frying
- 2 cups Vegetable Oil (canola or coconut oil can also work)
Optional Dipping Sauce
- 1 cup Chocolate Sauce (feel free to explore other sauces)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake Mix: Follow the package instructions to prepare the angel cake mix completely. Once baked or prepared as per instructions, allow the cake to cool entirely to facilitate easy handling.
- Form Cake Bites: Scoop out small, bite-sized portions of the cooled angel cake and gently roll each into a small ball shape, setting them aside for frying.
- Make the Coating: In a bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon thoroughly to create the churro-style coating mixture. You may add nutmeg or cardamom for additional flavor if desired.
- Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat over medium heat until hot enough to fry (around 350°F or until a small piece of bread browns in about 60 seconds).
- Fry the Cake Bites: Fry the angel cake balls in batches, cooking each for approximately 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Drain and Coat: Remove the fried bites using a slotted spoon and allow excess oil to drain off. While still warm, immediately toss and coat the bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully covered.
- Serving: Serve the churro bites warm. For an indulgent touch, offer a side of chocolate sauce or your preferred dipping sauce to complement the dessert.
Notes
- Top with fresh berries for an added burst of flavor and color.
- Serve immediately to enjoy the best crunchy texture and freshness.
- You can experiment with other spice variations such as nutmeg or cardamom in the sugar coating for different flavor profiles.
- Use coconut sugar as a less refined alternative for a healthier option.
- Ensure oil temperature is maintained to avoid greasy or undercooked bites.
