Description

  • For the dough:
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • For the filling:
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • For the glaze:
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 23 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir in flour gradually to form a soft dough. Knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread with softened butter and sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll tightly from the long side and slice into 12 equal pieces.
  6. Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  8. While baking, beat cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and spreadable.
  9. Spread glaze over warm rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Make the dough a day ahead and refrigerate overnight for a quick morning bake.
  • For extra gooey rolls, pour a little heavy cream over them before baking.
  • Let the cream cheese glaze sit at room temperature before spreading for best texture.
