Description

Juicy bratwurst or Italian sausages grilled to perfection and served in toasted brioche buns with sweet, caramelized onions. A classic, flavorful backyard favorite.


Ingredients

  • 4 bratwurst or Italian sausages
  • 4 brioche or hot dog buns
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
  • Ketchup, mustard, or preferred condiments

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sliced onions. Cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and caramelized.
  3. Add a splash of balsamic vinegar near the end if using, and season with salt and black pepper.
  4. Grill the sausages directly over the heat, turning occasionally, for 10–12 minutes until fully cooked and charred on the outside.
  5. Lightly toast the buns on the grill for 1–2 minutes until golden and slightly crisp.
  6. Place each sausage into a toasted bun and top with caramelized onions.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve with your choice of condiments.
