Description

These homemade Crunchie bars feature a crunchy honeycomb center coated in smooth, rich milk chocolate. A perfect treat for those who love sweet and crunchy textures with a touch of caramelized goodness.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup golden syrup (or light corn syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 200g milk chocolate (or dark chocolate, if preferred)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9-inch square pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, golden syrup, and butter. Stir until sugar has dissolved and the mixture begins to bubble.
  3. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes, then remove from heat.
  4. Quickly stir in the baking soda (it will bubble up), then pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Let it cool and harden at room temperature for about 1 hour.
  5. Once the honeycomb is set, break it into chunks and roughly chop it into pieces.
  6. Melt the milk chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water or in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between.
  7. Dip the honeycomb pieces into the melted chocolate, ensuring they are fully coated. Place them on a parchment-lined tray and let the chocolate set.
  8. Once the chocolate has hardened, enjoy your homemade Crunchie bars!

Notes

  • Golden syrup gives a traditional flavor, but light corn syrup is a suitable substitute.
  • Be careful when working with hot sugar—it can burn easily.
  • Use a candy thermometer if needed to ensure accurate simmering.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep the honeycomb from softening.
