Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup golden syrup (or light corn syrup)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 200g milk chocolate (or dark chocolate, if preferred)
Instructions
- Grease a 9-inch square pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, golden syrup, and butter. Stir until sugar has dissolved and the mixture begins to bubble.
- Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Quickly stir in the baking soda (it will bubble up), then pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Let it cool and harden at room temperature for about 1 hour.
- Once the honeycomb is set, break it into chunks and roughly chop it into pieces.
- Melt the milk chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water or in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between.
- Dip the honeycomb pieces into the melted chocolate, ensuring they are fully coated. Place them on a parchment-lined tray and let the chocolate set.
- Once the chocolate has hardened, enjoy your homemade Crunchie bars!
Notes
- Golden syrup gives a traditional flavor, but light corn syrup is a suitable substitute.
- Be careful when working with hot sugar—it can burn easily.
- Use a candy thermometer if needed to ensure accurate simmering.
- Store in an airtight container to keep the honeycomb from softening.
