Scale
- 1/3 cup gum base pellets
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (plus extra for dusting)
- 2 tbsp corn syrup
- 1/4 tsp citric acid (optional, for tang)
- 1/2 tsp bubble gum flavoring
- Pink gel food coloring (a drop or two)
- Granulated sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- In a heatproof bowl over a saucepan with simmering water (double boiler style), melt the gum base and corn syrup together until smooth and melted.
- Remove from heat and quickly stir in powdered sugar, bubble gum flavoring, citric acid (if using), and food coloring.
- Knead the mixture carefully (it will be hot) with a spatula or gloved hands until it becomes pliable like dough.
- Add more powdered sugar as needed to keep it from sticking.
- Once it’s cool enough to handle, roll small pieces into 1-inch balls.
- Roll each ball in granulated sugar to coat evenly and prevent sticking.
- Let the gum balls cool completely on a parchment-lined tray before storing in an airtight container.
Notes
- Use gloves while kneading to avoid burns and sticking.
- Cornstarch can also be used to prevent sticking if preferred over sugar.
- Store gum balls in a cool, dry place for best texture.
