Description
This luscious Matcha Mousse is a delicate Japanese-inspired dessert combining the earthy flavor of matcha green tea with the creamy smoothness of melted marshmallows and cream. Chilled to a perfect set, it is easy to prepare and makes an elegant, light treat with optional whipped cream topping for added richness.
Ingredients
Scale
Matcha Mixture
- 1/2 tbsp matcha powder
- 2 tsp water
Mousse Base
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 1/2 oz marshmallows
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
Toppings (Optional)
- Whipped cream, as needed
- Additional matcha powder for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare Matcha Paste: Sift the matcha powder through a fine-mesh strainer to prevent lumps. Gradually add the water in two parts, stirring continuously until the matcha is fully dissolved and smooth.
- Melt Marshmallows: In a saucepan, combine the milk and marshmallows. Heat the mixture gently over low heat until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat and allow the marshmallows to fully dissolve in the hot milk using residual heat, stirring occasionally.
- Combine Ingredients: Stir the heavy cream and the dissolved matcha paste into the melted marshmallow milk mixture, blending thoroughly for an even consistency.
- Strain Mixture: Pour the mousse mixture through a fine mesh strainer to ensure an ultra-smooth texture, free from any unincorporated lumps or skin.
- Chill: Divide the strained mousse evenly into two serving cups. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until the mousse is fully set and firm to the touch.
- Garnish and Serve: Before serving, top with a dollop of whipped cream and a light sprinkle of matcha powder for an elegant finish.
Notes
- Always sift matcha powder before mixing to avoid clumps and ensure a smooth mousse texture.
- Use cool or room temperature water to dissolve matcha instead of hot water to maintain vibrant color and delicate flavor.
- Be careful not to overheat the milk and marshmallows to prevent scorching; low heat and gentle stirring are key.
- The mousse sets best when chilled for at least 2 hours to develop the right texture.
- For a richer mousse, consider using whole milk or adding a bit more heavy cream.
