- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Butter an 8-inch square baking pan (or a 9×5 inch loaf pan for thicker pieces). Optionally line it with foil and butter the foil for easy removal.
- In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter (about 1 minute in the microwave).
- Stir in the corn syrup, brown sugar, white sugar, and sweetened condensed milk. Mix well until sugars are mostly dissolved.
- Microwave on high for 3 minutes and 5–15 seconds. Start with 3 minutes 5 seconds to avoid overcooking.
- Carefully remove, stir, and scrape down the sides of the bowl.
- Return to the microwave for another 3 minutes and 5–15 seconds.
- Remove from microwave, stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the hot caramel mixture into the prepared dish and let it sit at room temperature for several hours until fully cooled and set.
- Once firm, cut into squares and wrap individually in waxed paper.
Notes
- Microwave times may vary based on wattage—watch closely to avoid burning.
- For easier removal, foil-lining and buttering the pan is highly recommended.
- Store wrapped caramels in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
