For the Donut Bars:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¾ cup buttermilk
For the Glaze:
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
- 1–2 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch pan.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: Cream softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Alternate adding the dry mixture and buttermilk to the creamed mixture until just combined.
- Bake: Spread the batter in the prepared pan and bake for 22-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
- Prepare Glaze: For the glaze, melt butter until golden brown; whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla paste until smooth.
- Glaze and Serve: Pour the glaze over the cooled bars and let it set before slicing into bars.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of cinnamon to the donut batter.
