Description

Indulge in the irresistible goodness of these Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Donut Bars with a decadent Brown Butter Maple Vanilla Bean Glaze. Perfectly moist and rich in flavor, these bars are a delightful treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Donut Bars:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk

For the Glaze:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • 1–2 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: Cream softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Alternate adding the dry mixture and buttermilk to the creamed mixture until just combined.
  5. Bake: Spread the batter in the prepared pan and bake for 22-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
  6. Prepare Glaze: For the glaze, melt butter until golden brown; whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla paste until smooth.
  7. Glaze and Serve: Pour the glaze over the cooled bars and let it set before slicing into bars.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of cinnamon to the donut batter.
  • Ensure the glaze is at the desired consistency before pouring over the bars.
