Scale
- 4 cups cubed day-old bread (brioche or challah preferred)
- 2 ripe peaches, peeled and sliced
- 2 cups milk (or half and half for richer texture)
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Butter for greasing
- Optional: powdered sugar or whipped cream for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with butter.
- Spread the cubed bread and sliced peaches evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread and peaches. Let sit for 10–15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
- Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or top with whipped cream.
Notes
- Use slightly stale bread to better absorb the custard mixture.
- Try substituting nectarines or plums for a variation in flavor.
- Serve warm with ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
