Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 12–15 frozen potstickers (store-bought or homemade)
- 4 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth for vegetarian option)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Vegetables and Garnishes
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- 1/2 cup spinach or bok choy (optional)
- 2–3 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Additional Flavorings
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon chili oil or red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Broth: Heat sesame oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, sautéing for 1 minute until fragrant and aromatic. Pour in chicken or vegetable broth, soy sauce, and optional rice vinegar. Allow the broth to simmer gently for 5 to 10 minutes to develop a rich flavor.
- Cook the Potstickers and Vegetables: Add frozen potstickers directly to the simmering broth. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the potstickers are heated through and tender. During the last few minutes, stir in optional mushrooms or spinach to soften them and infuse the soup with additional texture.
- Season the Soup: Taste the broth and adjust seasoning by adding salt, pepper, and chili oil or red pepper flakes for heat, if desired. Stir well and then remove the pot from heat to prevent overcooking.
- Serve and Garnish: Ladle the soup into bowls, ensuring an even distribution of broth, dumplings, and vegetables. Garnish each serving with chopped green onions and an extra drizzle of sesame oil to enhance aroma and flavor.
Notes
- For a richer and more complex flavor, try adding tamari or fish sauce to the broth.
- Customize the soup by adding your favorite vegetables such as carrots or snap peas, or include cooked noodles for a more substantial meal.
- Use vegetable broth and vegan potstickers to make this soup completely vegan-friendly.
