Description

These Prosciutto Wrapped Mozzarella Bites are simple yet irresistibly delicious appetizers featuring marinated mozzarella balls wrapped in salty prosciutto with fresh basil leaves, finished with a drizzle of sweet balsamic glaze. Perfect for parties or quick snacks, they require just 4 ingredients and can be prepared in about 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 4 ounce package sliced prosciutto, sliced in half lengthwise
  • 20 marinated mozzarella balls (12 ounce container)
  • 20 leaves fresh basil
  • Balsamic glaze, as needed (such as Nonna Pia’s or Trader Joe’s)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Ingredients: Cut the prosciutto slices in half lengthwise to create thinner strips. Drain the mozzarella balls in a colander, then lay them out over a double layer of paper towels and gently pat dry to remove excess moisture.
  2. Assemble: Place one halved slice of prosciutto on a clean work surface or cutting board. Add one fresh basil leaf (folded if large) to one end of the prosciutto, then place a mozzarella ball on top of the basil leaf.
  3. Roll and Secure: Carefully roll the prosciutto around the basil and mozzarella ball, ensuring it is snug. Insert a wooden cocktail pick through the center to hold the assembled bite securely together.
  4. Finish and Serve: Just before serving, drizzle each bite lightly with balsamic glaze to add a tangy-sweet finish. Arrange on a platter and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Use marinated mozzarella balls for added flavor, or fresh mozzarella with some olive oil and herbs if preferred.
  • For easier eating at parties, keep wooden picks handy to secure each bite.
  • Balsamic glaze adds a wonderful sweet contrast but can be omitted or substituted with a reduction of balsamic vinegar if desired.
  • Store wrapped bites chilled and add glaze just before serving to keep prosciutto from becoming soggy.
  • These bites are best served fresh but can be prepped a few hours ahead if refrigerated.
