Description

Tantuni is a traditional Turkish spiced beef wrap characterized by tender, quickly sautéed beef strips seasoned with paprika and cumin, wrapped in warm lavash bread with fresh onion, parsley, and a squeeze of lemon juice. This flavorful and aromatic dish is perfect for a satisfying yet simple meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Filling

  • 300 grams beef strips
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (about 1/4 cup)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for sautéing)

For the Wrap

  • Lavash bread, 2 large sheets

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over high heat. Add the beef strips and sauté rapidly, stirring frequently, to ensure they cook quickly and remain tender and juicy.
  2. Season the beef: Once the beef starts to brown, add the paprika and ground cumin. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue to cook for another 2 minutes until the spices are well incorporated and aromatic.
  3. Warm the lavash bread: Gently warm the lavash bread on a dry skillet or directly over low heat to make it pliable for wrapping.
  4. Assemble the wrap: Lay the warm lavash bread flat. Distribute the cooked beef strips evenly over each sheet. Top with thinly sliced onion and chopped parsley. Drizzle lemon juice over the filling to add brightness.
  5. Wrap and serve: Roll the lavash tightly around the filling to form a wrap. Serve immediately while hot for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Using high heat to sauté the beef ensures it stays tender and juicy, preventing it from becoming dry.
  • Fresh lemon juice added at the end brightens the flavors and balances the spices.
  • You can customize the wrap by adding sliced tomatoes or chili peppers for extra flavor and heat.
  • Lavash bread can be substituted with other soft flatbreads if not available.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute beef with sautéed mushrooms or seasoned plant-based meat alternatives.
