Ingredients

Scale

Cookies:

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon table salt
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (plus 1/3 cup for rolling)
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Decoration:

  • 32 heart-shaped Hershey’s chocolates

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven and prepare the cookie sheets: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or use a silpat liner.
  2. Prepare the chocolates: Unwrap the heart chocolates and refrigerate them while preparing the dough.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  4. Cream the wet ingredients: In a larger bowl, beat together the peanut butter, butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  5. Add egg and vanilla: Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  6. Incorporate the dry ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until no flour streaks remain.
  7. Roll the dough: Roll the dough into balls, coat them in sugar, and place on the cookie sheets.
  8. Bake: Bake the cookies for 9-12 minutes until puffy with slight cracks.
  9. Add the chocolate: Press a heart-shaped chocolate onto each cookie immediately after removing from the oven.
  10. Cool and serve: Let the cookies cool on the sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
