Description

Indulge in the classic, chewy goodness of homemade chocolate chip cookies with this easy-to-follow recipe. Perfect for any occasion, these cookies are sure to please both kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookies:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips or chunks (semi-sweet or mix)
  • Flaky sea salt for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  3. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla, being careful not to overmix.
  4. Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry: Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in two additions, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in Chocolate: Gently stir in the chocolate chips or chunks, reserving some to press on top of the dough.
  7. Chill the Dough: Cover the bowl and chill for 30–45 minutes to enhance flavor and prevent overspreading.
  8. Scoop: Portion the dough onto the prepared sheets using a 2-tablespoon scoop, spacing the balls 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake: Bake one sheet at a time for 10–12 minutes until set at the edges and lightly golden.
  10. Finish and Cool: Sprinkle with flaky salt if desired, then let cool on the sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
