  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed

  • 2 cans (28 ounces each) of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Cheese Filling:

  • 26 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Lasagna:

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large pot, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic until browned. Add remaining ingredients, simmer covered for 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Prepare the Cheese Filling: Mix ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and parsley in a bowl.
  3. Cook the Lasagna Noodles: Cook noodles per package instructions, then drain and rinse.
  4. Assemble the Lasagna: Preheat oven. Layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and Parmesan three times.
  5. Bake the Lasagna: Cover with foil, bake at 375°F for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for 25 more minutes until golden and bubbly. Let cool before serving.
