- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon dried basil leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Cheese Filling:
- 26 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Lasagna:
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 16 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large pot, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic until browned. Add remaining ingredients, simmer covered for 1 1/2 hours.
- Prepare the Cheese Filling: Mix ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and parsley in a bowl.
- Cook the Lasagna Noodles: Cook noodles per package instructions, then drain and rinse.
- Assemble the Lasagna: Preheat oven. Layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and Parmesan three times.
- Bake the Lasagna: Cover with foil, bake at 375°F for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for 25 more minutes until golden and bubbly. Let cool before serving.
